Unlocking a World of Stories: Grade 3’s Adventure at the City Library!

Our Grade 3 students at NPS OMR recently embarked on an exciting journey beyond the classroom walls to the City Library, and what a magnificent day of discovery it was! The entire visit was designed to open our young learners’ eyes to the endless possibilities that live within the pages of a book, fostering a lifelong love for reading and learning.

From the moment the students stepped off the bus, you could feel their sense of wonder. The grand building, filled with the quiet hum of knowledge, welcomed our curious explorers. Their eyes widened at the sight of towering shelves lined with books of every size and colour imaginable—a truly awesome sight!

A highlight of the tour was our very own “Library Treasure Hunt”! Armed with a simple map and a list of clues, the children worked in small groups to navigate the different sections—from thrilling adventure novels and fascinating non-fiction to vibrant picture books and magical fairy tales. The eager whispers and triumphant “I found it!” exclamations made it a fun-filled activity that taught them how to independently find resources in a library.

The students were absolutely captivated by the interactive storytelling session led by one of the librarians. Sitting comfortably on colourful mats, they were transported to magical realms through the librarian’s animated narration. The session wasn’t just about listening; it was about interacting, predicting, and letting their imaginations run wild. The laughter and engaged questions showed how deeply they connected with the story.

To make the learning more personal, each child was given time to choose and check out a book themselves. Walking patiently through the aisles, carefully selecting a book, and learning how the checkout process works was a moment of great pride for them. It was wonderful to see them so responsibly handling their library cards and eagerly sharing their chosen books with friends and teachers.

This visit was more than just a field trip; it was a powerful lesson in independence, curiosity, and the pure joy of reading. It provided a fantastic opportunity for experiential learning, showing our students that a library is not just a quiet place, but a treasure chest of adventures waiting to be unlocked.

Our young readers returned to school not just with a book in their hands, but with new stories in their hearts and a renewed excitement for their next reading adventure. We look forward to many more such experiential learning journeys that help our children explore, learn, and grow!
