Grade 8 Explores the Functions of Parliament
Our Grade 8 students took part in a flipped classroom activity centred on the functions of the Indian Parliament. Instead of only learning about Parliament from their textbooks, students stepped into different roles and explored how discussions, decisions, and accountability work in a parliamentary setting.
The session covered the role of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, how laws are discussed and made, and how Parliament holds the government accountable for its decisions and actions.

The activity gave students an opportunity to research their roles, speak, listen to different viewpoints, and understand how parliamentary discussions take place. It also showed them that Parliament has its lighter moments, with humour and lively discussions forming part of the experience.
By taking the floor themselves, students were able to connect their classroom learning with the way democracy works in practice. The experience helped them understand not only what Parliament does, but also why discussion, decision-making and accountability matter in a democracy.
