Exploring the Art of Stagecraft at NPS OMR
What makes a stage performance memorable? Is it only the actor delivering their lines, or do several elements work together to bring a story to life? Our students explored these questions through an engaging Stagecraft session.
The session introduced students to the key elements of theatre, including props, lighting, sound, costumes, stage settings, and acting. They discovered how each element contributes to a performance. Lighting helps establish the mood, sound adds depth to a scene, costumes define characters, and props make the action more believable. Together, these elements create the setting and atmosphere that draw the audience into a story.
Students also learned how stagecraft supports actors by making characters, situations, and scenes more convincing. They explored how even small details can influence the audience’s experience and make a performance more engaging.
The session highlighted that theatre extends far beyond what happens in front of the audience. Careful planning, creative decisions, coordination, and attention to detail all play an important role in bringing a production to life. Students gained a deeper appreciation of the people and processes that contribute to a successful stage performance.
At NPS OMR, we believe that such experiences encourage students to explore different forms of creative expression while developing imagination, communication, and an appreciation for the performing arts.
