A Divine Celebration: Janmashtami Blooms at NPS OMR!

At our school NPS OMR, we celebrated Janmashtami with immense devotion, joy, and cultural fervor! The entire day was dedicated to immersing our young learners in the stories, values, and festivities surrounding Lord Krishna. From the moment the children stepped into school, the atmosphere was filled with divine energy, melodic bhajans, and the vibrant sight of little Krishnas and Radhas.

The children arrived dressed in beautiful traditional attire – dazzling dhotis and flutes for the little Krishnas and pretty lehenga-cholis for the young Radhas. It was a heartwarming sight to see our students embodying these beloved figures with such innocence and excitement. The classrooms and corridors were adorned with miniature jhulis (swings), peacock feathers, and footprints of Bal Gopal, perfectly setting the spiritual and festive mood for the day. Our teachers also joined in the celebration, adding to the vibrant and devotional atmosphere.

One of the main highlights of the day was the enchanting performances by our students. The school echoed with the sweet sounds of melodious bhajans and devotional songs sung by our little devotees. We were also treated to graceful dance performances that depicted the playful and loving tales of Lord Krishna’s childhood. The stage came alive with their sparkling costumes, rhythmic steps, and bright, confident smiles, creating a beautiful blend of culture and happiness.

To further enhance the experience, a fun and exciting ‘Matki Phod’ (Dahi Handi) activity was organized. A safe and child-friendly pot, filled with treats, was hung at a suitable height. Our enthusiastic young Krishna teams worked together, forming a human pyramid with the support and guidance of their teachers, to break the pot. This thrilling game was met with cheers and laughter, and it beautifully taught our children the values of teamwork, strategy, and collective effort.

Throughout the day, teachers engaged students in various insightful activities. They listened to captivating stories about Krishna’s life and his lessons of love, friendship, and righteousness. A special ‘Show and Tell’ activity was organized where each child brought a symbolic object related to Krishna – a flute, a peacock feather, or a miniature pot. The children confidently came forward, showed their item, and spoke a few lines about it. This activity helped build their speaking skills, boosted their confidence, and made learning about the festival deeply interactive and memorable.

The celebration of Janmashtami was a tremendous success as it provided a wonderful opportunity for experiential learning about our rich culture and traditions through play, music, and creativity. It was a day of devotion, laughter, and togetherness. Our young learners went home not just with the joy of a fun-filled day, but with a better understanding of the values Krishna represents – love, unity, and respect.

We look forward to many more such cultural celebrations to help our children explore, learn, and take pride in the wonderful tapestry of Indian traditions
